Day 11 Furby's Cove

Our last day in Furby's Cove, sigh......

We had been talking to Arnie about perhaps going out for a ride in his boat (yesterday was too windy), and the fog today was as thick as pea soup, so not a safe thing to do!! Sigh...

But, we spent the day visiting and walking around the cove, just catching up with each other and that was wonderful as well. As I said to Rita, it just gives us more reason to come back next year!!

Karl and I went for yet another walk out to the road.  Would you believe that, although we are still puffing and panting by the top, it's getting easier every time we do it? Who knows, if we stayed another few weeks, maybe we could jog up LOL!!

What will remain a memory of this trip is the raspberries. Interesting to note that there are bushes on both sides of the road, hundreds of wild raspberries "everywhere" so it's easy to have just a little snack anywhere along the road - a lot of the berries are ripe right now!!

The sun came out just after lunch, and this afternoon, around 3 pm. was low tide so Rita, Karl, and I went down to pick beach glass.  Pieces of glass, tossed in the ocean long ago, and then tumbled on rocks can show up on the beach looking like coloured pebbles.  Rita and her sister have found a few pieces with emblems on them that dated to 1901 to 1912 and the other around 1960! So, figure that they were in the ocean anywhere up to 100 years !!

For supper, Rita cooked up a major feast of cod, (rice and veggies from her garden) as well as Karl's last snack of raw scallops. To think that this great food is available anytime, for free ... wow!

We took our last walk through the little community of Furby's Cove, stopping a few times to talk to people who were also taking an after-dinner walk, as well as stopping for raspberries fresh off the many bushes along the way numerous times. There is never a question that these folks will always be friendly even to complete strangers. It is such a relief compared to some city folks back home who wouldn't ever say hello or even look at you in passing. Of all the remarkable things on the Rock, the people are the best!!

Sigh, while it would be nice to stay, our lives and our loved ones are in Ontario.  So, time to pack..... after a game of Eucher??
