Day 12 The Road Home

We woke bright and early to have a quick breakfast with Arnie and Rita before heading out and..... home, sigh! Mixed feelings really. We have had a wonderful time at Furby's Cove and feel really at home with Arnie and Rita, but ... it's time to go home.

Arnie gave us a drive to the airport in Gander.  It meant 3 adults in the front seat of his truck, but it really didn't feel cramped.  I was in the middle of course so I just leaned Karl's way ... nothing wrong with a little togetherness LOL!!  It was a 3-hour drive, but it went quickly because we chatted the whole way.  Arnie and Rita are planning a trip out west to Fort McMurray in September. They'll drive out and stay several months so that they can be there for the birth of their their grandchild in December.  Lots of exciting plans, hope all goes well with their trip and that they stay in touch with the Ontario branch of the Wassings!!

As things turn out, our trip home will be a long one!  The flight from Gander to Halifax was uneventful (other than me having to restrain Karl from doing in a little dog on the plane who cried and barked and yipped and yapped most of the 1.5-hour trip).  The plane was kind of a cross between a propeller and jet - since we were in the back row and there were 2 on each side, it only carries 80 passengers ... a little one!

We have a layover from 4 pm today to 6:40 am tomorrow morning so we headed off to our hotel for the night thinking that our checked luggage would go straight through to Toronto and we could pick it up tomorrow in Toronto (as per the Westjet people in Gander). Well, we got to the hotel and almost immediately got a call from the airport to come and pick up our suitcase, sigh!!! Lucky Karl got that job while I went walking to try to get my Fitbit numbers up!!

We found a nice restaurant at the hotel for supper - seafood platter for Karl ... surprised??  Oh well, this is the last day of our holiday, so why not??

So we're chilling at the hotel for a few hours and then we'll call it a really early night.  We'll need to be up at 3:45 am to make it to the airport 2 hours before our flight!  Wonder if ANYTHING is open for breakfast that early??

Nite all!
